About Me

February 18th, 2008

My name is Ken Nordquist. I am an accidental developer... an accountant gone geek!

After spending more than ten years in the accounting field, I decided I wanted to work with computers... sys admining. After some classes I got my MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) and away I went...

From there, my career path looks like this: Sys admin / accounting system manager for a large tourist organization -> sys admin at a large construction company -> Linux Systems Architect / Network Administrator for an integrated educational management solutions provider -> Systems Architect / Development Manager for a couple of real estate marketing companies -> web services manager for Earthlink, a senior developer at Izea, and now I am a developer gone entrepreneur - at nPhusion.

Before 2006, most of my development was with php. I was involved with phpWebsite for about three years for which I wrote a couple of business modules. At the end of 2006, Earthlink decided to make an investment with Ruby on Rails and we were one of the lucky teams selected to lead the way (Right before Earthlink cut half their workforce). So now I am a Rails developer.

Late 2007 I discovered Merb (at version 0.3.7) and Datamapper (at version 0.2.3) and immediately fell in love. Since then Merb and Datamapper have made giant strides to becoming the Ruby web framework Rails was meant to be.

I am also a huge fan of Agile Development. So much so I became a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) in August of 2006.

You can find me hanging out in the #merb and #datamapper IRC channels at Freenode. Stop by and say hello.
